How can I identify my Herald boiler stove?

1. How many grate bars do you have in your stove:

  • 17 = Herald 8 or Herald 14
  • 19 = Hunter 80B

2. If either a Herald 8 or Herald 14, where are the door hinges located?

  • Big chunky hinges that are bolted on the side of the stove and wrap around = Herald 8
  • Small and bolted to the face of the stove = Herald 14
  • How to identify what version you have:

3. Do you have rectangle glass or shaped glass;

  • Rectangle = Old Doors MK1 or CE
  • Shaped = New Doors CE or CEVII

4. Was your orginal Baffle/Throat plate made of vermiculite material:

  • Yes = CE
  • No = MK1 or CEVII

5. Is your baffle a flat steel plate with one bend in it? and does it sit on 2 lugs at the front and a welded retainer at the back of the stove?

  • Yes = MK1
  • No = CE or CEVII

6. If the baffle sits on runners either side and is flat or shaped like a roof, you have:

  • Flat = CE
  • Roof Shaped = CEVII
  • NB (In 2006, due to ‘CE’ Approval the grate bars were changed slightly. This resulted in the length of the High Bars being reduced and also the patten changed. Although the ‘New Bars’ will fit the old MK1 models they will NOT fit alongside the old bars and therefore a full set will be required.)
